Smalltalk Magazine was started back in 2005 by husband and wife team Corinne and Nigel Howson. Corinne and Nigel were both born, met and married in Leeds in Yorkshire.
Corinne has over 30 years of working in the publishing industry and has worked on two of the region’s biggest daily titles, The Yorkshire Post and The Yorkshire Evening Post.
After the birth of their two sons, Corinne, like many parents, wanted to spend more time with her family and take a break from the long hours and high-pressure management job that she had.
One weekend whilst visiting a friend’s house in Brighton Corinne picked up a copy of a magazine from her friends coffee table which was full of information for parents.
Corinne and Nigel had noticed a distinct lack of readily available information for parents local to Leeds and thought it was a great idea.
Research began into the possibility of publishing something similar. With lots of hard work and tons of help from family, friends and contacts Smalltalk was born in the spring of 2005.
Smalltalk is now approaching its 14th year and during that time has built up a regular readership in the Leeds and surrounding areas and the respect of businesses who use it as a platform to promote their products and services to parents.
More recently Smalltalk Webzine has been launched, the idea is to offer parents an alternative source of useful articles and information and provide an alternative digital platform for businesses to offer their wares.
