Which European destinations offer your family the best value for your pound?

by TRAVEL talk

With the future of the British Pound looking gloomy, you might be wondering where is best to take the family on holiday to get the most out of your money. Here, Phillip Garlick from travel money experts H&T tells us which European destinations will get you the best deal for your pound.

With the possibility of a no-deal Brexit still in the air, the British Pound has seen a significant drop to a low of just €1.0881 to the pound. And with European countries like Spain, France and Italy being a favourite among holidaymakers due to their great culture and relatively short flight times, travellers are expected to feel the pinch this year (Statista).

However, other European currencies are seeing a less dramatic change, which makes these countries the perfect holiday destination if you’re wanting to get the most from your pound. Below, I’ll be going through some of the best value European destinations for this year.

Turkey

The Turkish Lira is currently offering 6.15603 to the British Pound. And, because of its low prices for eating out and accommodation, it’s a great place for holidaying families. The average cost for a meal out in an inexpensive restaurant will cost you around 25 per person but can be as little as 17 (Numbeo).

You could visit the popular beach resort of Kusadasi, which is home to a number of water parks, like the Adaland Aquapark, and many child-friendly hotels. Or, maybe the beautiful village of Olu Deniz is more your family’s style, which boasts a beautiful coastline background that’s perfect for snapping your holiday photos against.

Currently, the Polish Zloty is offering around 4.55zł to one British Pound. This is another country which has a relatively low cost of living, with cheap accommodation and meal prices. A meal in an inexpensive restaurant can usually cost around 20zł (Numbeo).

If you’re planning a trip to Poland, why not stay in the thriving capital of Warsaw? The city is full of interesting museums and science centres that even the kids will love. Or, visit the picturesque city of Wrocław, where your children can hunt for Polish gnomes: small statues that lay around the city’s streets!

Sunny Beach, Bulgaria

The Bulgarian Lev is currently sitting at around 2.06Лв to the pound. One of the country’s most popular locations, Sunny Beach, has the benefit of affordable hotels and accommodation, as well as cheaper options for eating out. A meal in an inexpensive restaurant can cost just 10.00лв on average (Numbeo).

Sunny Beach is home to some exciting waterparks, like Action Aquapark, as well as plenty of beautiful, sandy beaches that the whole family can enjoy. If you choose to stay in this area, I recommend visiting the stunning coastline of Nessebar, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site that is just a short trip from Sunny Beach.

The Croatian Kuna currently offers around 7.74kn to the pound and meals are relatively cheap. The average cost of a meal in an inexpensive restaurant is around 50kn, which equates to just over £6 (Numbeo).

The country is home to some amazing national parks, like the Plitvice Lakes National Park and the Krka National Park. Your kids will love the Museum of Illusions in Zagreb as well as splashing around in the Adriatic sea at one of the countries many stunning coastal resorts.

With low accommodation costs, these are just some of the best holiday destinations to help you get the most from your money. And, with some stunning scenery and exciting sites to visit, the whole family is sure to love them.
